If you ever encounter problems with installing Xmms2 and Esperanza client on Gentoo box, here is a solution.

I usually install non-portage apps in /usr/local directory. I assume you unpack sources to /usr/local/src dir
Xmms2 uses waf build system:
cd xmms2-0.5DrLecter
./waf configure
./waf build
./waf install
Are you tired with phpMyAdmin? I found an alternative - SQL Buddy with much more prettier interface, and for simple tasks (like administering webpage database) running out-of-the box. Just unpack to your web directory, i.e. public_html in your home dir, point to it in your browser, and log in - no setup.
Many of us faced the problem of choosing right tool for creating personal/company web page. Many of us spent a lot of time of searching the Web for such a tool, forums, blogs etc. And after all, more or less successfull, you choose one solution.
And I choosed one solution, too.
Drupal, Markdown and Blueprint.
Why?
Many times I had to deal with documents with embed images, especially written in Word. Text only content is simple to manage and import i.e. to Scribus, however, when there are some images inside, it is not so clear how to import images too.
I spent lots of time of searching Web, and finally I found rather simple solution.
So,
Question: How to save images embed in Word documents?
Answer: Simply save the document as a html page. All images will be saved in a directory, which Word will automatically create.
I take a lot of photos. And one day I faced the problem of effcient managing them. I tried GQView, Digikam and Picasa (and many other apps, both java and php). And still - there are no apps for photo managing in Linux that satisfy me. However, for the simple managing I did what follows below.
I have a MyBook external disk and I created a huge (100 GB) partition only for photos taken by me, and taken with my Nikon D40.

I decided to switch do Gmail, not because of huge storage, but simplicity and speed. However, since I didn't want to lose all my old email from three or four accounts (or more, I don't remember) I had to found a solution for exporting them.
Exporting contacts in CSV format and importing them to Gmail is rather simple, hence exporting mails one-by-one by forwarding them to Gmail is not efficient, I tried another approach which is tricky, but simple.
Ot i co! Skończyłem pisać pracę, a wraz z nią szablon w Latex-u, Korzystałem z klasy memoir oraz bibtexa. Załączam preambułę oraz styl bibliografii -- zmodyfikowany nieco styl nplainnat. W zestawie są również pliki z okładką (oficjalną i nieoficjalną).
Przed użyciem szablonu trzeba go nieco zmodyfikować - wymienić pliki z rozdziałami pracy oraz podać ścieżki do obrazków.
Możliwe że za jakiś czas dorzucę tu jakiś przykładowy szkic, ale tymczasem Feel free and enjoy!
W poszukiwaniu innych niż standardowe szablonów Beamera natknąłem się na szablon grupy KDE Oxygen: http://www.kde.org/kdeslides/. Na bazie ich szablonu postanowiłem skonstruować własny, przy okazji tworzenia prezentacji na OSSę 2008. Dołączam niezbędne do odpalenia pliki. Baw się dobrze!
Swoją drogą martwi brak dokumentacji o tworzeniu innego stylu...
W komentarzach w stylu zawarłem info jak odpalić szablon. Uwaga -- wymaga pakietu pgf!
Postanowiłem sobie, że zrobię moją pracę magisterską na cacy:) A to oznacza, że muszę mieć niezłej jakości obrazki. Problem miałem taki, że gimp, inkscape i xfig nie produkowały dobrych poglądowych rysunków. Dnie spędzone i noce spędzone też w goglach zaowocowały znalezieniem progamu IPE: http://tclab.kaist.ac.kr/ipe/ , który ma tą zaletę, że umożliwia wpisywanie poleceń Latexa, również w trybie matematycznym! I mówię to w pełni świadomie. Ostatnie miesiące spędziłem głównie na konfiguracji Drupala dla strony Podaj Dalej (www.podaj-dalej.info). I do tej pory jest jeszcze wiele rzeczy do poprawienia - od teasera na pagerze skończywszy. Dostosowanie Drupala do wymagań strony dla pisma akademickiego z pełnym elektronicznym archiwum wymaga dobrej znajomości PHP + MYSQL + HTML + CSS, a przydałaby się jeszcze znajmość Javascriptu. No i chęci. To jest to, czego czasem zaczyna brakować po wielodniowej walce z jednym problemem (np.
