The Astronomers

Astronomers don’t sleep at night
they point their telescopes to the unknown –
end on the spider’s web at the attic

with a little pencil they add
infallible move of ants on the floor

they strain their radios to listen to
the sought of leaves at the backyard

and – in a sickly thrum of a morning sun
they doggedly keep the curtain of the night
